Gypsum For Soil

If you’re dealing with hard clay soil, look no further than McNaughts’ gypsum for soil improvement. Creating an optimal environment where plants can grow and thrive, gypsum is one of the most cost-effective solutions for supplying hard-to-cultivate soil with calcium and sulphur – without changing the pH level.

Competitively sourcing gypsum from leading suppliers and wholesalers, we specialise in delivering high-quality products to meet all your agricultural and horticultural needs.

What Is Gypsum For Soil?

Used as a soil improver, gypsum helps break up heavily compacted clay soils to improve structure, air circulation, and drainage.

Gypsum assists in creating more suitable environments for root development and nutrient absorption so plants can grow better and more easily. Gypsum is particularly useful for drought-prone areas, making it an invaluable product for Australia’s agricultural industry.

McNaughts’ Eco Gypsum For Soil

McNaughts also offers a special Eco Gypsum for improving soil structure without costing the earth.

This planet-friendlier product is made from locally-sourced, recycled plasterboard, allowing us to cut down on transport. This helps minimise the product’s carbon footprint while also redirecting useful waste away from landfill.

Other Agricultural Products For You

Looking for additional agricultural products to enhance crop yield and profitability? We offer a range of top-quality products to suit every agricultural and horticultural need:

  • Granular fertilizer: Nutrient-rich, easy to apply, and a popular choice in the agricultural industry, we offer a variety of granular fertilizers, including DAP, MAP, MOP, SOA, Urea, and SuPerfect.
  • Lime: Lime is often used to reduce acidity in the soil while also improving water penetration and nutrient absorption. It’s an excellent source of calcium for plants.
  • Biofertilizer: Can be applied to seeds, plant surfaces, and soil to increase the availability or supply of the nutrients that are key to plant growth.
  • Compost (Cow): Rich in nutrients due to a high organic material content, cow manure can be used on lawns, fruit trees, cereal, maise, cotton crops, and more.

Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some of the most frequently asked questions we receive about our gypsum for soil improvement. If you can’t find the answers you’re looking for, please get in touch via our contact page today.

Gypsum offers a range of benefits, particularly when added to hard clay soil, which is tough on plants and difficult to cultivate:

  • Improves soil structure and drainage
  • Boosts absorption
  • Reduces erosion
  • Great source of calcium and sulphur for plants
  • Reduces aluminium toxicity
  • Can improve acid soils
  • Reduces salt levels

While gypsum can boost calcium and sulphur levels, it won’t change the pH (acidity) of the soil in any meaningful way.

A better option for improving sandy soil is to apply organic matter – such as manure or compost – to help retain nutrients. Lime can also be used to boost calcium and improve water penetration, while reducing acidity, making it a more effective option for improving the quality of sandy soil.

An eco-friendlier product such as our Eco Gypsum for soil improvement is made from locally-sourced, recycled plasterboard. Sourcing locally allows us to reduce our carbon footprint by cutting down on transport while redirecting usable gypsum away from landfill.
